This episode we continue down the drum & bass theme with our mixes and I get the opportunity to introduce you to a bit of a rising star from the world of 170. He has been all over my radar these last couple of years with his tracks, from hearing his work alongside my own track on the Med School New Blood compilation, right through his two brilliant EPs which he’s released on Med School subsequently.
He’s also impressed the likes of London Elektricity and other heads with his super tight DJ sets, and with a stack of productions and bootleg remixes already under his belt he’s making some serious waves.
He’s in his early 20s, but has already performed at Fabric, had an exclusive mix on BBC Radio 1, been featured in Mixmag and DJ Mag, and he’s got a lot of people excited about his sound.
He goes by the name Lakeway, and he’s put together a properly brilliant mix for us at Insight. This isn’t your average mix either, it’s an amazing journey through Lakeway’s influences and inspirations and we are treated to a tangled weave of genres including a bit of ambient, classical, house, hip hop, bass, grime, jungle, footwork and all the crunchy bits in-between.
In 2020, look out for Lakeway and his continuing misadventures on Diffrent Music, and if you’re in Bristol this coming February (2020) you can catch him at the Hospitality event happening there.
Stillhead spends hours combing through the vast spaces of new music to bring us frequent new podcasts from the underground. With minimal interruption -just like his music- the vaccum provides space with which to appreciate the efforts of all the artists he’s featured. While the program is geared toward enthusiasts there is something here for many different listeners. Give it a listen.
